Dance Activate Arts Award Registered Centre

Dance Activate is a registered Arts Award centre and are able to offer our students the opportunity to take part in working towards a Bronze and Silver Arts Awards which are nationally recognised awards for young people aged 11 to 25.

Fully qualified Arts Awards Advisors Jane Fletcher and Tracey Sandford run this unique awards programme on a voluntary basis, which is open to all those who attend regular classes with Dance Activate.

Jane Fletcher was herself a former professional dancer with London Festival Ballet (now English National Ballet) before going on to retrain as a fully qualified Learning and Development specialist when she eventually retired from dancing. In between studying for a teaching degree, Tracey Sandford is a higher learning assistant at South Kilworth School as well as running the new Arts Award Discover and Explore schemes for children aged 5 10 years old.

The Aim of Dance Activate Arts Award?

The aim of Art Award is to support young people to develop as artists and arts leaders by:

  • supporting young people to enjoy the arts
  • developing creative and leadership skills
  • achieving a recognised national qualification.

Arts Award is open to anyone aged 7 to 25, covering five different levels, four of which are accredited on the QCF (Qualifications and Credit Framework). Taking part is flexible enough to fit around other activities and taking part provides a recognised national qualification that is useful when applying for further education and job opportunities in the Arts or other fields.

Young people can achieve an award through any arts, media or cultural activity, such as music, literature, film-making or drama, and through technical and support roles such as arts marketing, stage lighting and web design.

Dance Activate offers Bronze and Silver awards in dance. Dancers can get started with the Bronze Award by just taking part in our normal weekly classes, workshops and any other dance related activities that are on offer.

We have two trained volunteer Arts Award advisers who support our dancers to achieve their Arts Awards aspirations and sessions are run on a regular basis throughout each term, and during the year there is the option of attending special Arts Awards events and outings that support the Awards programme. The Awards are managed by Trinity College London in association with Arts Council England working with 10 regional Bridge organisations. Since its launch in 2005, the award has grown quickly and is now flourishing in arts centres, colleges and schools, community projects, libraries, galleries, local authorities, theatres, and youth clubs.

Our Arts Award advisers are the primary assessors of Bronze and Silver awards undertaken at Dance Activate. The work is subsequently externally moderated by trained Arts Awards moderators.

Arts Awards and the Qualifcation Credit Framework
