Professional Dancer with Birmingham Royal Ballet

Ballet Associates is delighted to welcome Laura Day as a guest teacher. Laura who was born in Cheltenham, trained at the Corraine Collins Dance Studios and the Royal Ballet School.

Laura was a finalist at the 2010 Adeline Genée Awards and has won several awards including The Phyllis Bedells Bursary (2009), April Olrich Award for dynamic Performance (2009) and a RBS choreographic achievement award (2011).

She performed the Principal girl in the first movement of Concerto at the Royal Ballet School end of year performance, 2010, and created the role of Greta Samsa in Arthur Pita's The Metamorphosis, 2011.

Laura joined Birmingham Royal Ballet in 2012.

Ballet Associates is delighted to welcome Janet Briggs as a guest teacher. Janet works with the students by sharing exercises that are designed to improve strength, stamina, speed of movement and suppleness, as well as good dynamic stability which can all help enhance a dancer’s general fitness.

Janet has over twenty years continuous experience in her field and has been involved in many aspects of Physiotherapy, with a special interest in the treatment and rehabilitation of dancers both as students and professionals. She divides her time between the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH), ongoing research and the Royal Ballet School where she has worked for the last 20 years.

Janet’s extensive knowledge of dancers has involved her in a number of high profile projects relating to dance, including pain perception and pain intolerance in adolescent ballet students and more recently hypermobility, and its impact on dancers. She has given numerous lectures and taught on many aspects of Dance Physiotherapy.

Graham is also extremely proud to welcome Lewis Turner to Ballet Associates as a guest teacher of classical ballet repertoire. Born in Leicester, Lewis was originally selected by Graham to join Dance Activate at the age of nine Graham’s unique dance scheme that aims to invites children from local schools who show a particular enthusiasm and talent to participate in dance. Later Lewis went on to successfully audition for a place at Elmhurst School for Dance. He was awarded a Prix de Lausanne scholarship in January 2010 and completed his year long apprenticeship prize with Birmingham Royal Ballet before joining the Company as a professional in his own right. At the same competition he also won the Contemporary Dance prize. As an apprentice student he danced with the Company in Cyrano, Swan Lake, Slaughter on Tenth Avenue and Theme and Variations. As a professional his repertory with Birmingham Royal Ballet is extensive and includes ballets such as Coppélia ('Call to Arms'), Carmina burana (Seminarian), The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker (Jack in the box) plus Beauty and the Beast Grand Tour.
